The Minecraft Map of Great Britain is just what it sounds like; it is a massive map made up of 22 million blocks that has been lovingly sculpted by artists to represent Great Britain and its features. There are pixilated replicas of the geographic features that make up Great Britain, with most of the information coming from real geographic data.

Somebody Really Loves Their Map

The developers have gone over real geographic data and have made this map to be as close as possible to the geography of Great Britain. The only downside is the fact you have to install the map yourself manually. It can be a bit of a pain to do, but there are plenty of online tutorials to show you how.

The Size Of The Map

In terms of the size, you can guess that it is pretty huge. There are, after all, 22 million blocks representing 220,000 km² of land. You will need the full version of Minecraft in order to play this map. The UK Ordnance Survey people made the map, and they did it with sophisticated technology that meant they did not have to program it all for themselves.

The Problems The People That Made It Had

The hardest part of their job was removing the human-made structures from the matrix they used. It was easy enough to use aerial photos and their height notations on their maps, but the human-made objects kept messing up the colour system they had devised. They had to go back and keep changing the colours, which is why there are a few odd colours within the finished map. They are odd because they look out of place, but it is not a bad thing and it not really noticeable after a while.

For example, you will see lots of lines that are yellow, blue and light green. They are actually roads that were caught in the render and the matrix used didn’t know how to factor them in, so made them odd colours. These funny colours are not supposed to represent water or rivers. Some people are pleased that the roads are represented because it helps people find certain areas (such as their home town). Follow the familiar settings to find places you want to explore.
